WHAT DOES A LINEMAN DO?

A lineman is someone who builds and maintains electrical powerline and the structures that support them.

Distribution power lines

Distribution power lines deliver power locally from substations to end users. These are the most commonly used lines.

Transmission power lines

Used to transport large amounts of electricity across far distances from power generation points to substations.

Underground power lines

Commonly used in cities and residential areas, underground power lines decrease risk associated with wildfires across the west region.

ENERGIZED POWER LINES

Energized power lines are lines that are left on or “hot” during repairs and replacement. This allows for power to continue to flow to end users without interruption or blackouts. Special training and equipment is needed to work on these lines.
